Brittany’s Story
I was 22 years old finishing up my junior year of college, when I discovered a dark mole on the inner part of my right calf. Being only 22 years old, I didn’t think anything of it, besides it looking extremely ugly on my leg. I wanted it off my leg as soon as possible, but since I was in a different city for school, I decided to wait until I went home for the summer. Six months later I returned home and made a trip to the dermatologist.
I was more or less just excited the ugly thing was removed from my leg. They took a biopsy to test the tissue. The next day I received a phone call stating it was cancer. The mole turned into Stage 4 Melanoma! It had progressed into my lymph nodes. I underwent a year of chemotherapy (high does interferon (Intron A)) beating the cancer but still graduating college! Talk about a fight for my life! I am blessed and fortunate enough to now be five years in remission this year. 🙂 It is extremely important to get checked by your dermatologist at least once a year!!
I am also thankful for Joni and HealthiTan in regards to still being able to feel fabulous but with a SAFE tan!

Brittany is currently a Wellness Expert at Natural Way Wellness Center in Overland Park, KS. She has a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design and Merchandising, but due to the treatments she added a minor in Business and Marketing. It has been so inspiring getting to know Brittany. She is full of energy & Life! She goes on several fun trips a year with friends or family & always comes in to see us before leaving. Just knowing about her journey through that year fighting melanoma changed the way I viewed health in general!
